Evangelization
New Initiative Launched: May 2024
Kindness is the new evangelism. Performing random acts of kindness can be a powerful way to evangelize and make a positive impact on others. Kindness can embody the teachings of Jesus, who showed compassion and love for all people. It can also help break down barriers and open the door for conversations. The Diocese of Albany has launched a large scale evangelization initiative around the theme “Kindness Matters.” For more information, visit www.rcda.org/kind

Evangelization is the ministry and mission of proclaiming and witnessing Christ and his Gospel with the intention of deepening the faith of believers and inviting others to be baptized and initiated into the Church.
United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, 2006, p 512
Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection.
Evangelii Nuntiandi (On Evangelization in the Modern World), #14, Dec. 8, 1975, Pope Paul VI
To evangelize is to bear witness, in a simple and direct way, to God revealed by Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. Evangelization, then, has different implications depending on our relationship to Jesus and His Church. For those of us who practice and live the Catholic faith, it is a call to ongoing growth and renewed conversion. For those who have accepted it in name, it is a call to re-evangelization. For those who have stopped practicing their faith, it is a call to reconciliation. For children, it is a call to be formed into disciples, through the family’s faith life and religious education. For other Christians, it is an invitation to know the fullness of our message. For those who have no faith, it is a call to conversion to know Christ Jesus and thus experience a change to new life with Christ and His Church.
Go and Make Disciples 26, 27; United States Council of Catholic Bishops, 1992
